about

In the resonances and reverberations of a deep cavern the gargantuan Ben Webster conjures melodic noises and dark deep tones for the shadows and ghosts to dance to.

An album of croaks and groans, rattles and drones to summon whispering spirits and ghostly leviathans

Rituals of Breath and Bone is by the collaboration of noise maestro Colin Potter, dronecore veteran Jonathan Coleclough and baritone saxophonist Tim Hill. Together they conjure a rich and shifting world of subterranean rituals, sunless seas, drones, melodic noise, whispers and roars. A world of giant horns, the beasts they conjure and the earth songs they sing.

The pieces are accompanied by images by Dave Young who has been working for many years with Tim and Jonathan around these ideas of giant horns, earth songs and whispering leviathans.

The pieces are the result of a live session in ICR Studio where Colin and Jonathan manipulated Tim’s baritone sax, Colin using a variety of devices and Jonathan his laptop. Tim then edited and mixed the several hours of material. The trio have already recorded an album, available on their individual Bandcamp sites, this is the second release, a more condensed album of melodic noise.

Colin Potter has a reputation for innovative mixing, sound processing and production, working with Fovea Hex, O Yuki Conjugate, Ora, Monos, Current 93, PNZ, Phil Mouldycliff and many more, most notably with Steven Stapleton on numerous albums by Nurse with Wound. He has regularly collaborated with Jonathan over many years on recorded material and live performances.

Jonathan Coleclough is a British composer operating at the border between droning ambient music and abstract electronic music. He uses a wide variety of sound sources, often everyday sounds to create albums, installations and performances, ‘Awesome dronecore’ DJ magazine, UK, Jan 2000. Tim and Jonathan have been friends and sound makers for over 25 years.

Tim Hill lives in Somerset, plays the baritone sax and creates outdoor celebrations, shows and music. His draws on free improv, ritual sound, traditional music, composition, electronica and jazz to create wide variety of noises and runs the Hullabaloo Improvising Orchestra.
